I am a Penn State graduate that moved to New York City in May 2010! As incredible as the Big Apple is overall, I quickly realized how unique it is when it comes to the culinary world. It doesn’t matter what kind of food you are looking for, I guarantee you will find it some where in one of the five boroughs. I might not be like Travel Channel’s Andrew Zimmern, I could never eat anything that creeps or crawls, but I am always interested in discovering new restaurants — big or small, expensive or cheap, fancy or hole-in-the-wall’ish.
My interest in food didn’t come until I interned at Food Network Magazine before my senior year in college — if it wasn’t for the publication I may have never learned how to cook with simple yet delicious ingredients. It’s sad to admit, but before FNM I didn’t even know what a truffle was! While learning the basics and ins and outs of food I realized that there was so much out there I needed to taste… I remembered how I never ate asparagus until I was 15-years-old, same thing with avocados! Had I been deprived my entire life of some of the most delicious foods?
Even though this blog is focused on the food and restaurants around New York City, you may find some posts on other locations that I have traveled to as well as some recipes that I am trying out at home. Even though I don’t travel much (my job keeps me in Manhattan) I do manage to make it to other cities a few times a year. When I do, I’ll be delighted to share with you my culinary adventures and tasty finds!
Want to see what other things I am interested in? Follow me on Instagram and Pinterest! Of course I post about food, but I also will sneak in some other interesting finds having to do with interior design, art, architecture, and more! I can’t help it — I love to show off how food and interior design go hand in hand… really, they do! For 7 months, I was a editor/writer at Martha Stewart Living, where I learned so much about interior design! Every day was a new adventure, and now I can’t help but notice all of the talent in food styling across the web and other magazines!

Hello! Your blog makes me feel hungry
I have never been to NY, but I hope one day I will! In the meantime, I will certainly enjoy your blog!
Thanks for the nice comment! Be sure to come to NYC soon and sample all the fabulous food around the city! When I have friends that visit I have no clue what to show them around the city, the touristy spots are so boring so I try to take them to quick tasty spots I know they’ll enjoy, like: La Esquina (for mexican food), Baked by Melissa (cupcakes), Kingswood is a great place for dinner, and more!
I’d love to see you try a classic NY style cheesecake, either homemade or at a restaurant, or both!
And if you’re ever in Chicago, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the pizza battle: deep dish or classic NY thin crust?
Hey Holly — actually for dessert at Megu I had a FABULOUS cheesecake. It came with some caramelized walnuts and pecans and some fruit was on the plate as well… it was delicious! the next time I may try their chocolate cake — it sounds amazing too!
But I do need to find a great NY Cheesecake recipe so i can make one myself. any thoughts?
Deep Dish vs. Thin Crush. I def. think I’m a true East Coaster… thin crust is def. the way to go. I thought I was going to hurl when I had a Chicago deep dish pizza, i have no clue how my boyfriend eats an entire pie! 1. the crust is just too thick and it tastes like “fun world” (remember that place?) pizza dough. 2. sauce on top of the cheese? enough said. 3. speaking of cheese, haven’t they ever heard of fresh grated? 4. ew. just plain ew. not for me.
